A Message from Ashley

Ashley Fields is a literary curator, workshop facilitator, and podcast host with a background in Comparative Literature. Her academic work explored myth and transformation — themes that continue to shape her approach to storytelling today.

Originally from Los Angeles and now based in the Netherlands, Ashley understands what it means to live between worlds. That in-between space — between languages, cultures, ages, and identities — is where much of her work begins.

Her literary interests span Black literature, speculative fiction, folklore and myth retellings, and stories that examine identity and belonging. She believes bookstores are more than retail spaces — they are cultural anchors, places where community gathers and imagination expands.

Through The Carried Away, she is building sustainable English-language literary programming across Dutch cities — with the long-term vision of creating a physical bookstore and café that serves as a home for globally minded readers.

Let’s build something together.
